Jeffrey S. Katz is the Chief Technology Officer of the Energy and Utilities industry at IBM. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He is a member of the IBM Academy of Technology. He was a member of the IEEE Standards Association Board for 2014. He was chair of the Smart Grid Session of the 2012 Yale Alumni in Energy conference. He was invited to a smart grid security workshop convened by the federal Government Accountability Office and National Academy of Science. He is an Open Group Distinguished IT Specialist. Jeff is on the Advisory Board of the Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center. He is also a member of the Internet2 working group on the Internet of Things, and is a co-chair of the Industrial Internet Consortium’s Energy group. He was a co-chair of the IEEE Standard 2030 Smart Grid Interoperability Guidelines IT Task Force.
Prior to IBM, he was the Manager of the Computer Science department at an ABB U.S. Corporate Research Center.
He is an author on six patents, in tele-medicine, robotics, computer vision, and intelligent electric power distribution. He has a Commercial General Radiotelephone license from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission, is a member of the Smart Grid Advisory Board of the Network Science Research Center, and belongs to Sigma Xi.
